The Little Mermaid shares treasures with one of our Little Guests!

Everyone at SCT is excited for another fabulous Fairytale Festival!
Last year was such a great success that this year we have created two sessions to allow more one-on-one interaction between the characters and the children.  We will have even more characters, including some storybook favorites like Alice in Wonderland and Jack, of Beanstalk fame.  There will be live theatre performances every 30 minutes, and a brand new Royal Boutique!

Choose tickets for either 10am-12pm OR 2pm-4pm!

Upon arrival, guests will receive a Map of Storybook Kingdom, and will begin their journey through Mermaid Lagoon, the Enchanted Forest, Fairy Hollow and more!  They can stop by the Royal Boutique where boys and girls will make crowns and tiaras, or receive a royal makeover by palace artisans!  Along Storybook Lane they will meet Snow White, visit with Cinderella and her Prince in front of her golden carriage, and buy magic beans from Jack. On Wonderland Way they will visit with Alice to ‘pin the grin’ on the Cheshire Cat.  Look below to find the way to your favorite fairy tale spot!

A few of our 115 guests at Fairy Fest 2014!

A few of our 115 guests at Fairy Fest 2014!

Last year’s most popular land was The Snow Castle where children played in the *snow,* created necklaces and keychains, made marshmallow snowmen, and visited with the Snow Queen and the Ice Princess. Snow Castle is back again this year with more snow and even more frozen magic!  Another favorite returning this year is Pirate’s Cove, where young buccaneers will join the pirate crew to swab the deck, load the cannon, and dig for buried treasure.  Better follow Captain’s orders, or you’ll have to walk the plank!

FairyFest 2015 is sure to delight children of all ages but is designed for ages 2-10.  Tickets are available online or you can call our box office at 912-238-9015.  To insure that the children have a special and memorable experience, we are limiting the spaces.  We expect to sell out, so please purchase your tickets early!

The Commitment to Wear Tights, by Maggie Lee Hart

It’s tech week and our Creative Dramatics II students are pepped up to share their work of Once Upon A Mattress, Jr for their friends and family this weekend.  The excitement that is felt within SCT’s walls will be focused on the last remaining elements of our production including; completion of set construction, lighting and sound design, and full runs of the show in costume!  So pull up your tights and put on your dancing shoes!

What makes a production successful?  It is the organization and commitment by all people associated with creating the show.  This is true not only for SCT, but for any show being produced.  It takes every single person and student to understand the commitment they have agreed to when signing up to be involved with a show.  The absence of a cast member affects every single element of a production.  Many adjustments need to be made. New formations of a dance must be choreographed and the absentee’s lines and lyrics redistributed so the story may be told.  The microphone plot must be redone, and the scene change list revised. . But most importantly, the loss of their voice and energy within the ensemble can be felt within the morale of the cast.

From the start of creating a production, our process consists of a group of artists who wish to create a unique and unified show.   SCT classes are offered to be a learning experience, and I hope we have illustrated how important every single person and every single role is in the success of production.  It is commitment as a whole that makes SCT glitter and glow.

To see the outcome of this wonderful team-building process, visit us this weekend during one of our three public performances. Friday at 7pm, or Saturday and Sunday at 3pm, we will be at the theatre popping the popcorn and swirling the cotton candy, ready to delight and entertain!  Tickets can be purchased here or at the door and are $12-$15.  The memories are priceless.

Brush up on your vocab skills, y’all!  We’re days away from opening And Then There Were None, but I’m already excited about starting our next Teen Theatre class.  The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has been one of my favorite shows since I saw it on Broadway while I was in college.  The music is awesome, the characters are devastatingly easy to identify with, and it’s just darned funny. This show is that perfect melding of side-splitting humor and excellent story telling.  I think it will be a wonderful challenge for all involved, on and off the stage.

I am hugely excited to be working on this project alongside Brandon Kaufman and Corbin Hernandez! Brandon will be our Musical Director, but he will also be stepping out from behind the piano to Assistant Direct.  Corbin will be our Stage Manager, overseeing the technical aspects of the show, and running warm-ups for the cast.  We will focus a lot of warm-up time on honing our ad-libbing and improv skills, which are key in a show with audience participation.  You never know what can happen!

The…Bee is open to high school students of all abilities. Classes begin March 11th, meeting every Tuesday and Thursday from 4pm-6pm, and the show opens on May 16th!  Registration forms can be found in the front office at SCT, or by clicking this link right here

Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t implore you to catch this week’s Teen Theatre production of And Then There Were None! (Intrigue, murder and madness, oh my!)  Based on the best-selling mystery novel of all time, Agatha Christie’s Ten Little Indians, this show will keep you guessing til the end! Starring Emily Edwards, Noah Edwards, Brennan Jones, Caitlin McCarthy, Catie Morris, Michelle Negley, Matt Weeks, Matthew White,  and Corinne Willis.  Four shows only!  Friday at 7pm; Saturday at 3pm and 7pm; Sunday at 3pm.  Come see some of the incredible young talent growing up at SCT.
